LASER HAIR REMOVAL (SHR)

What is SHR?

SHR stands for Super Hair Removal and is different from the traditional IPL and laser as it targets the hair germ cells and blood supply that feeds it. It does not rely solely on the colour (pigment) of the hair to effectively destroy the targeted hair.

New research has shown that a slower, longer heating process is more effective for permanent hair reduction than high and short levels of energy.

This latest technology was invented in Israel and is the most advanced way of removing unwanted hair. It is also TGA approved (Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australian Govt)

How does SHR work?

SHR is a revolutionary approach, rather than bombarding the skin with high amounts joules (energy), SHR fires multiple shots but at low joules. In doing so, it gently heats the hair follicle to the heat required and the most you will feel is warmth and a tingling sensation. Some clients liken it to a warm massage. SHR also utilises In-Motion technology, where the hand piece is always in motion over the skin.

Is it really pain free?

YES IT IS!!!
We’ve had clients sweating nervously before their treatment and once we start they’ve said,
“is that it?”
Another quote we’ve had from some clients;
“it’s like a hot stone massage!”

IS SHR suitable for all skin types?

Yes is it suitable for all skin types, except a true skin type 6 which is extremely dark skin. This is achievable because of the technology & techniques utilised. Unlike traditional IPL laser, SHR treatments can be had all year round without having to avoid direct sunlight.

How many treatments are needed?

Most people vary in the number of treatments required. This does depend on where their hair cycles are when we first start, but usually most people need 8-12 treatments. This will allow hairs to be disabled effectively during the active growth phase. After completing a treatment course, if required, we recommend maintenance touch ups to be performed 1-3 times a year.

How often do I need to come?

We usually space our treatments 4-6 weeks apart depending on the areas we treat.

Most people are 2-3 weeks on the facial areas and 4-6 weeks on the body. As the hair slows down and becomes finer, we usually space out sessions.

Is it safe?

Laser hair removal is the most popular aesthetic treatments for the removal of hair. When combining medically graded and FDA approved technologies with qualified Skin & Laser Specialists, laser hair reduction is very safe. We provide an extensive consultation process to assess suitability, reduce any risk and to provide the best possible outcome. Our machines are both FDA and TGA approved and our manufacturer has been used by medical professionals around the world for many years.

Will the hair grow back?

Once the hair follicle has been destroyed, it cannot grow new hair.
However, there are sometimes the odd hair germ cells that manage to partially escape the laser during each treatment. Some of these follicles may be only stunned and will need to be treated. It is also possible to have new hair growth triggered if you go through any hormonal changes such as starting or stopping contraceptive pills, pregnancy, menopause, changes in medications or long term stress.

How do I prepare for Laser Hair Removal?

You must wait 4 weeks after waxing before the hair growth is ready to be lasered.
The treatment area must be shaved the day of or the day prior to any laser treatment.
Areas on the face do not need to be shaved. You can either leave it or if the hair bothers you in between treatments, use depilatory cream if you don’t want to shave it.
You must not pluck or get any waxing during your course of treatments.

Will Laser work if client has a hormonal condition?

Females who are experiencing Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or any hormonal conditions can achieve excellent results. It may take a little longer and touch up treatments will be required 2-3 times as ongoing maintenance.
